These are some songs we've been listening to quite a bit recently

Oasis - Falling Down (Chemical Brothers Mix)
A ‘Chems’ remix of everyone’s favourite Manc swaggerers might not seem very 2008. In fact, it might seem like a good reason to take the music industry outside for a swift kicking. But the piano break on this track is so earlyninetiestastic we cannot help but love it. For about five minutes. Last Tuesday.

Laura Marling - Alas, I Cannot Swim (LP)
Birdsong + ditties about waking up on park benches + choirs = amazing.

Twelves - Works For Me
Do you remember a few weeks ago when we said that Adele’s music is only listenable in remixed form? Well, Twelves are a bit like that, except they’re only good when remixing other people. This original composition is smooth, shiny, but ultimately flat - like a beer can that has been sat on by an elephant.

Little Boots - Meddle
Dark ‘n’ dubby madness that sounds like a thunderbolt falling down the stairs.

Ida Maria - I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked
Ignore the wilfully ‘kooky’ styling and affected behaviour that has been compulsory for every young female solo artist since Kate Nash baked a fucking cake at a gig and instead savour one of the summer’s best scuzzpop singalongs. ‘ILYSMWYN’ bustles along like a nudist running from ‘the law’, full of exuberance, frivolity and an arseful of nettles. Nice.

Klaxons - Not Over Yet (Skream remix)
Dub Dub Dubby treatment of Klaxons’ Grace-bothering indierave smash that is the perfect audiofodder for an evening spent in a smoke-filled car feeling giggly, sleepy and bored (AND THE REST OF THE SEVEN DWARVES!!!). Whirring waves of bass wash over as the famous riff burrows into your brain and things get a bit fuggtastic. In the words of one HYG correspondent, “It is obese!” Quite.

The Verve - Love Is Noise

Bytches With Problems - Wanted
Filthy-tongued classic in which our heroines urge listeners to “fuck tha police” and “suck my motherfucking dick” over the looping funk riff from Kool And The Gang’s ‘Jungle Boogie’. A more sustained onslaught of smut will not be found outside the nearest 2 Live Crew record.
