Here comes the serious bit

REMEMBRANCE MONDAY
It is almost seven years since R&B starlet Aaliyah was tragically killed in an aeroplane crash in the Bahamas. It is testament to the frenetic pace of the mid-to-late noughties and the high turnover of churned-out, supposed ‘stars’ we have seen since that her death seems far less recent.

Our favourite Aaliyah song was always ‘More Than A Woman’ (just ahead of ‘Try Again‘), which became a posthumous number one in this country. Not only was the song built on an amazing (and uncleared) spiralling string sample and squelchtastic Timbo beats, but the video featured a motorbike and some massive speakers. What more could you want?

BONUS FACTS
:: ‘More Than A Woman’ was the first ever posthumous number one single to take over from another posthumous number one single (George Harrison’s ‘My Sweet Lord’, in 2002)
:: Trumpet fan Mark Ronson appears in the video as a club DJ
:: When you think about some of the people who are still alive in the world today, it’s not really fair that someone as bright and talented as Aaliyah is dead, is it?

I was always a bigger fan of Aaliyah's The One I Gave My Heart To. Still, no matter what your favorite song, ther'es no denying she was great. It's not right to have lost her.
