Spinning Around - The Return!

It's that one where we go on about records we've been listening to!

Dizzee Rascal - That’s Not My Name
Disastrously tuneless rendition of the Ting Tings classic turns into lurching, ska-tinged anti-racism track for the chorus (“they call me rudeboy / they use the n-word / that’s not my name!”). Jo Whiley fawns wildly. A nation shrugs and carries on.

thecocknbullkid - On My Own
Entirely amazing new single from entirely amazing new (ie she’s been out about 18 months) artist. Not as good as another one of her tracks, the name of which escapes us and which she has removed from her MySpace, greatly damaging the informativeness of this paragraph.

Anthony and The Johnsons - Hope There’s Someone
Like Hercules and Love Affair but approaching hip-replacement age? FEAR NOT! The singer made songs before, like this plaintiff ‘n’ beautiful cry in the dark, with his old ‘crew’.

Mystery Jets - Two Doors Down (Duke Dumont Reconstruction)
Did we mention that this is basically the best piece of classical music released this century? We are calling it classical because a) we don’t know what classical music sounds like and b) if we had our way it would definitely sound like this. Imagine the Royal Albert Hall going mental over this one. Shits on Mozart.

Kissy Sell Out - You’re On Fire
Country fiddles? Spanish guitar? A load of Missy-esque bollocks? ‘It can only be’ KSO!

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend (LP)
OMG there’s this new band you’ve got to hear and they’ve got this album which is like indie music but a bit sort of Paul Simon-ish and quite embarrassing in places but worthy of more than a few toetaps and overall quite good and we heard them before anyone else and we wrote about them before anyone else and they did not exist before this so shut up.

Kylie Minogue - The One
Dannii’s sister finally gets around to releasing the only truly decent song on ‘X’, long after anyone savvy enough to realise this album’s campaign had nothing to do with her previous two stopped caring. There was a good article in last month’s Attitude (written by someone we know!!) addressing the ’Kylie Situation’, which is worth seeking out.

Albums
Including, Fantasy Black Channel (Late Of The Pier), One Of The Boys (Katy Perry), Feed The Animals (Girl Talk) and The Worst Of The Prodigy (Hadouken!).

Stuff that our friend Ian sent us to listen to
Including an amazingly banging remix of Kate Nash’s ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Russell Bloc Party’s Tiger Team, among other things.

Some other stuff too
Probably

This post sort of petered out a bit, didn’t it?
